The Simple Woman's Daybook 11-09

FOR TODAY 2009-11-08

Outside my window... It's cold and still no snow. I am not sure which I'd prefer, warmer weather with snow or cold weather with no snow. Hmmmm?

I am thinking...about the holidays. Trying t make some decisions.

I am thankful...for friends. I am this need to unite people. It isn't as easy as it may seem. People are guarded, including me. I am thankful for the few true friends I have and so grateful for the friends I am making on a daily basis.


From the learning rooms...well Cali is working on holiday projects. She is very interested in learning phonics at the moment. She is doing well and I am certain she will be well ahead of where she needs to be by the start of Kindergarten next year.

From the kitchen...I need a good pumpkin recipe. I am having a challenge with Grandpa. Got any ideas???

I am wearing...still in my pj's. I am catching up on computer stuff since I finally got mine back. I need to get moving though.

I am creating...still working on moving things around for Christmas. I need a bigger house or a smaller Christmas tree.

I am going...nowhere. And that is a good thing.


I am reading...not reading. Perusing catalogs. Dangerous!

I am hoping...that my best friend Kelly will change her mind a find a way to come visit soon.


I am hearing...Max and Ruby. They drive me a little crazy. (It's a nick jr. TV show.)

Around the house...still recovering from a house full of tween girls this weekend. I survived!


One of my favorite things...my happy girls.

A few plans for the rest of the week...Cali's first cheer competition is this coming weekend. And Cassi is participating in individuals. Fingers crossed, they are confident and do well.

amongst friends

Well, I am beginning a new journey on my blog this week, with friends.

Once a week I will post a collage of photos that were taken by friends.
We are a group of friends from all over; Alaska, Florida, Alabama. We are 3 long time friends. We hope to add more friends as our journey grows. I invite you to join us. Send me your photo by Saturday and I will add it to our collage each Sunday.

For now, since this is somewhat a new experience for a few of us, we will offer a theme. I hope that as we progress we will no longer need one.

So, without further adieu, I give you "Fall", amongst friends.

The theme for the upcoming week is "motion".

"A" Little Gratefulness

*I've been thinking about "G" a lot this past week. Here is what I thought of.


Here goes it for this week:

"G"

generations- I could have more simply said Grandparents however, there are great-Grandparents too and truthfully I like generations better. I like the history. I like having a big family and the stories that come with them, from the youngest to the oldest. I treasure every little move the babies make to every thought that the oldest of our family shares with me.
I am grateful for what each generation provides to the make up of my family and I am grateful to have experienced many generations in our family at one time. Currently I have 2 nieces under a year old and a Grandma who just turned 80. There are 4 generations in my family; now 3 in Scott's. It's pretty amazing to thing there are almost 80 years between the ones I love the most, don't you think?

girly things- (I know it's stretching it but I told you, I struggled with "g"). I am very fortunate that my girls are very balanced kids. They all have their moments of being athletic, princess-y and even kooky. But at the end of the day, I really enjoy the 'girl' in them. The dressing up, the dreams of fairytale outcomes, the make-up, the clothes and the special girly secrets between a Mom and her girls. Yep, we're heading there and I am going to enjoy the ride.

GOD- The creator of all living things. Look around you, see it all, feel it all, sense it all. How could you not be grateful for the reason you are you? Be grateful! ENOUGH SAID!

FOR TODAY 2009-11-02

Outside my window... It is fresh and new and COLD!

I am thinking...about chasing the moon with Sugar Raye.

I am thankful...for moon journals. It has been nice to have something special to share with Cassi.

From the learning rooms...I need to learn exactly where the moon sets for us here in order to make moon chasing tomorrow morning a little easier.

From the kitchen...figuring our what to do for dinner and preparing dinner for tomorrow too. It's going to be an excruciatingly busy day tomorrow so I have to prepare today!

I am wearing...sweats. I didn't shower yet. I was chasing the MOON! :)

I am creating...space...for the multitude of Christmas decorations my children want to bring up from the crawl space!

I am going...to keep packing up things that my children no longer play with. It's a great feeling getting some of this stuff out of the house!

I am reading...Amelia Bedelia and I Spy and the other new books Cali bought with her gift card to Border Books that Grandma sent to her! Thanks Grandma! ;)

I am hoping...for inspiration. I need something new in my life!

I am hearing...the heater working overtime.

Around the house...we are going to have a fire in the wood stove tonight. The girls and I agree we could use a cozy evening here at home. (After music lessons, of course!)

One of my favorite things...Halloween. It was a wonderful day for my children and me. I lvoe the traditions we continue and the new ones we are creating.

A few plans for the rest of the week...Trying to keep afloat. Keep wishing for Daddy's return and doing our best to make sure we don't go to the wrong place at the wrong time.

Halloween

I've done it dozens of times, and each time it's the same...but different.

This year, we made our way back to Pizza Hut. We haven't been there IN YEARS! And yet we made our way back.

The service was just a crummy as it ever was, but it was still just as fun as I remember it being.
There were 22 of us I think. I'm not even sure everyone made it into the picture.



I think we must have done something right all those years ago because the big kids you see at the front of the picture, their still coming. They remember too!

I think they love us so. And I adore all of them.

Many years ago, before I even had kids, we traipsed around following these big kids, watching them zig-zag back and forth across the streets filling their pumpkin decorated bags with mounds of sugar.

This Halloween like every year past, they still come. They come to let us take their picture, to walk for a short while with the kids who've come after them.





They come, to laugh at the silly costumes and remind us that being ftogether does mean something. Even to that high school kid whom you were sure would ditch you the first chance they got to be a part of something bigger, like FAMILY!



They even meet us between parties to make the tweens (and the old folks too) feel important, hanging with the high-schoolers, having some french fries and hot chocolate. Just laughing, just being HAPPY!



And you know what I've figured out, they'll keep coming. As long as they are here and even sometimes when they have to make a special trip, they'll be around for the little ones that come behind them. And just like Grandpa and GiGi,

and Holly before me, I'll still be here trick or treating too!

Edit* Here is 1 quick look at Cali's indoor Halloween costume she wore to the school on Wednesday. She was Pippi Longstocking, whom she ADORES! :)
